Hudson Valley, NY – Peter Chatzky, Democratic candidate for New York’s 17th Congressional District, announced the publication of his new op-ed “Diversity of Housing Creates Affordability” in Real Estate In-Depth.

In the piece, Chatzky lays out a clear case for tackling the region’s affordability crisis by embracing a wider range of housing options—such as multifamily units, townhouses, accessory dwelling units (ADUs), and smaller homes. He argues that a lack of housing diversity drives up costs and shuts working families, seniors, and young people out of communities across the Hudson Valley.

“Hudson Valley families are being priced out of the very towns they grew up in,” Chatzky said. “We need real solutions, not just platitudes. By encouraging diverse housing options, we can make sure everyone—from first-time homebuyers to seniors looking to downsize—can afford to live here.”

Chatzky’s op-ed underscores his commitment to affordability and housing, one of the central pillars of his campaign for Congress. Like his father, who had a long career building Section 8 housing, Chatzky has consistently called for policies that put working families first, whether through affordable housing, or universal health care.
