Chatzky: “Small Businesses are Key to Building a Fairer Economy that Works for All New Yorkers”
BRIARCLIFF MANOR, NY – Today Peter Chatzky, candidate for Congress in NY-17, toured 10 small businesses across the congressional district to encourage New Yorkers to shop locally. Chatzky spoke directly with small business owners to learn more about the obstacles they are facing and the kinds of support they need from the federal government.
As a small business owner himself, Chatzky understands the unique challenges small business owners deal with, including how those challenges will be intensified as a result of the budget legislation passed by Mike Lawler and Congressional Republicans. It has been estimated that the Republican budget bill will increase borrowing costs for small business owners by as much as $1000 per year.
Today’s tour marked the first in person version of Chatzky’s social media series, “Snack Chatz,” where he shares his thoughts on the day’s political news while enjoying one of his favorite snacks. Chatzky also holds frequent “Coffee Chatz” at cafes throughout the district to meet members of the community and provide opportunities for conversation.
As part of this tour Chatzky shopped at the following 10 local businesses:
Peter Chatzky said, “Nearly half of all Americans are employed by small businesses. The 30 million small businesses in the United States comprise 99.9 percent of all U.S. businesses. Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and the key to building a fairer economy that works for all New Yorkers, not just the richest 1%. As a small business owner myself, I know firsthand how rewarding and challenging operating your own company or store can be. When Mike Lawler and Congressional Republicans signed the Big Ugly Bill, they signed up New Yorkers for increased inflation and increased long-term interest rates. They want you to pay more so they can cut taxes for major corporations and billionaires. When I am in Congress, I will repeal this terrible bill and work to pass additional legislation to ensure that our small businesses, not ultrawealthy corporations, get the support they need to continue to enrich our communities.”
